Best Travel Tripod?

Posted by: Photographer | Comments (1)

Hello! I’ve recently purchased a Bogen 3001BN (with a 484RC2 ballhead), but with the weight I won’t be taking it to DC as I wanted. I’ve got several cheaper tripods, but I wanted a real good travel one while I can. I will use it with a digital and perhaps with my Canon Rebel (G or K2) with the short zoom on it. Should I use the 300mm lens I’ll use my monopod. So I’m looking for something getting over 50″ tall, folds to 21″ or less, and weighs no more than 2lbs or so. I’ve looked at the Bogen NG Tundra (though it’s out of my price range), the Slik Sprint Pro (63.1″), and the Sunpak DigiPro4B. Any better models under $70 I should look at? I’m about 5′10″ and want it for vacation and scenic photography. Thanks in advance.

Changing A Tripod Head?

Posted by: Photographer | Comments (1)

I just got a tripod for Christmas which is what I really needed its a great tripod. A 620-750tmbb by platinum plus by sunpak. its a great tripod, the legs feel strong and not flimsy, its heavy which is a plus because i don’t have to use a sandbag when im on a shoot with my dcr-vx2100 and it turns into a monopod, but the one thing that disgusts me about this tripod/monopod is the head, its made completely of (it feels like anyway) low end plastic, when I move the head up and down you can hear plastic rubbing on plastic and it moves very squarely and not fluidly its a little janky actually. So I want to get a new tripod head for it, and I removed the head yesterday and its a screw on, I’ve never disassembled a tripod before so this is all new to me, and the tripod only costs like $80-$90 so i’m not looking at spending more than $200 on a new head. any suggestions for this tripod would be great and do most new heads screw on? any help is greatly appreciated.
